Endoscopy Decontamination Unit,Western General Hospital
Our team were the lead consultants and architects for the provision of a new Endoscopy Decontamination Unit at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. The project included a two-storey extension and alterations to the existing ward to form a connecting link. We created the design solution in response to hospital’s brief and developed the space-planning, detailing and specification in line with Scottish Health Technical Memoranda, Planning Notes & Department of Health Documents where appropriate.
The extension is formed using a two-storey steel-framed structure and an insulated envelope which was designed to meet current environmental and carbon reduction standards. The team coordinated the mechanical & electrical services, including integration with existing plant, and carefully considered the site arrangements to resolve hospital & contractor access. Detailed design was required for the phased connection point into the existing hospital building.
